Ireland’s economy and opportunities attract more international students

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Ireland has emerged with the fastest-growing economy in Europe. According to IBIS World, Irish GDP still grew at a nominal rate in 2020 despite the massive disruption to economic activity caused by COVID-19. A significant growth in GSP followed in 2021 where it doubled from 6.2% to 13.6%, making Ireland the fastest-growing economy in the EU.

Diverse preference of students studying in the UK

An interesting finding from Prospects Luminate’s Early Careers Survey 2023 shows that managing finances overtook mental wellbeing as the main issue faced by young people in the past year. More than half of participants (52%) said ‘Money’ was the biggest challenge of the last year, followed by ‘Balancing commitments’ (51%), ‘Taking care of my mental health’ (50%), and ‘Keeping motivated’ (48%) – these four held a clear lead over other concerns.

Australia adds two years to post-study work visas

Beginning July 2023, all PhD programs and more than 400 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs will be eligible for the augmented Temporary Graduate Work visa (subclass 485). Graduates whose visas expire prior to 1 July 2023 may apply for an extension of their work authorization by attending COVID-19 Pandemic event-endorsed Temporary Activity visa (subclass 408) events.
